“BOARD OF SELECTMEN GIVE LIBRARY CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT

THE GREEN LIGHT”

The Library Trustees are extremely pleased with the unanimous vote of the Board of Selectmen on Monday, June 9, to accept the $3.309 million construction contract with J.K. Scanlan of East Falmouth for the reconstruction of the former Heritage Museum building into the new Library.

The vote comes after careful review of the bid documents by Library Trustees, Town Staff and the project architects, Perry Dean Rogers|Partners of Boston.

Thanks to the Town Manager who articulated the issues clearly, and both the DPW Director and Library Director who captured the details of the Project going forward, along with background material and fundraising projections provided by the Trustees, the Selectmen had sufficient documentation on which to base their decision.

Fundraising efforts to date have yielded $445,554 in cash gifts and pledges from 846 individuals in Provincetown and in the Commonwealth as well as 30 states across the country. In anticipation of the start of construction, a major effort to raise the balance of funds in the amount of $816,000 has begun.

The Trustees look forward to breaking ground and beginning construction in mid-summer, with Project completion in Fall 2004.
