“GENERAL CONTRACTOR BID
UNDER CONSIDERATION
FOR LIBRARY BUILDING
PROJECT”
The Provincetown Board of
Library Trustees is pleased to report that it is in receipt of a low bid of
$3,309,000 submitted by the J.K. Scanlan Company, Inc. of East Falmouth for the
Library Building Project.
The bid has been taken under
advisement and is being reviewed by the Trustees and Town staff. Meanwhile,
Perry Dean Rogers|Partners Architects will do their due diligence, evaluate the
bid, and make a recommendation to the Trustees by May 29.
“At this point, the outlook is positive,” stated Trustees Chair James Cole, “and we look forward to moving ahead with the construction phase of this important community project.”
The project was put out to
bid in April for construction limited to the existing main building of the 1860
former Center Methodist Episcopal Church, a National Register building and home
of the former Heritage Museum at 356 Commercial Street.
Design plans were re-crafted
last January after bids came in too high. The revised plans have received the
approval of the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners as well as the
Massachusetts Historical Commission. The public is encouraged to look at the
plans for the new 15,250-square foot Library, which are available at the
Freeman Street Library.
Bids were due in the Town
Manager’s Office on Thursday, May 22, at 2 p.m. On hand to open and record the
bids, and evaluate them for compliance were architects Peter Ringenbach and
Warren Van Wees, Library Trustee Marcia Fair, Library Director Debra
DeJonker-Berry and DPW Operation Director Sandy Turner.
