Naming Opportunities - Become a permanent part of our Town’s history! In April, 2005, Provincetown Public Library moved into its new home at 356 Commercial Street, an 1860 National Landmark building which had been gutted and reconstructed to serve as a modern library while retaining its historic elements. For example, the Second Floor Children’s Library was built around a 66.5-foot half-scale model of the “Rose Dorothea”, the famous schooner that won the race from Boston to Gloucester, and captured the Lipton Cup in August, 1907. The building’s restoration was funded by a Capital Campaign which began in 2001. To date, the Campaign has raised almost $1.7 million, which does not include a $1.9 million Massachusetts State Construction Grant awarded in 2001 and a $1 million Town contribution. To date, more than 1,440 individuals from 39 states across the country have contributed to this Campaign, many of them several times over. Recently, the large reading room on the first floor has been named the "Marc Jacobs Reading Room," for which the building fund received $100,000. The town of Provincetown has awarded the Trustees the $2.1 million neededto complete the restoration in one final phase. This includes restoring/reconstructing the decorative exterior façade, painting the building, completing the Lower Level stacks area and meeting room and landscaping. To attract donors, the Trustees have established a Donor Recognition Policy. In addition, Special Named Gift Opportunities are available and range from $2,500 for naming a book-stack end panel to $250,000 for the historic front façade, to $1,000,000 to name the Library. Tax-deductible contributions to the Campaign may be made by cash or credit card, or pledged over a number of years. Checks may be made payable to the “PPL Building Fund."
